Homemade NUT Milk

I delicious and versatile dairy alternative to use with your cereals, smoothies or desserts. This is an easy way to make delicious, preservative-free nut milk at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds OR 1 cup raw cashew nuts OR 1 cup of a mix of these nuts
  • water (ideally filtered water)
  • 2 pitted dates or 1tsp real vanilla to the mixture before blending
  • a pinch of salt (pink Himalayan salt is best) before blending
  • Muslin cloth, cheese cloth, or nut milk bag

To Make

Wash the nuts and rinse well. Soak the nuts in filtered water overnight in the fridge.

Drain and rinse the nuts. Then, place in a blender. Add dates (or vanilla) and salt.

Add 3-4 cups of filtered water (depending on how thick you want the milk to be).

Blend on high speed until fluffy.

Drape a nut milk bag, cheese cloth or square of muslin over a large bowl. Pour the mixture through the fabric and squeeze the liquid into the bowl (use a downward tugging motion, almost like milking a cow!)

Nut milk keeps well in a sealed glass jar in the fridge for about 4 days.

Tip: divide in a small jars or bottle (instead of 1 big bottle) to keep fresh longer.

Note: Do not throw away the left-over of the nuts, freeze it to use in cakes or cookies for a delicious nutty taste.
